the design concept for the proposed building is an intertwining filmstrip that penetrates through the exterior and into the interior bridging the ceiling, wall and floor. the undulation of the filmstrip spatially defines where zones are formed to house various programs and spaces.

through an innovative and unique facade design conceptualizing the chinese lantern adorned with carousel of paper horses, the two halls are seamlessly integrated into one, uniting tradition and modernity. the halls rotate at alternate angles to draw people towards the entrance, while the semi-circular main entrance appears to extend endlessly. the green podium/sky garden in hall a, juxtaposed with the glass ceiling of hall b, brings harmony between the town’s culture and the environment, thus creating an extraordinary exhibition space.

the design concept for the proposed resort is to create a seamless connection between nature and the man-made, hence earth and sky. an individual pavilion is catered for each resort room. upper floor rooms are benefited with a breathtaking panorama of the ocean from the viewing deck.

the proposed “urban green carpet” is designed to entice, excite and captivate pedestrians to further explore this uniquely defined space in the heart of central. the element cascades from the facade into a leisurely stream as it progresses towards the street splashing greenery and vegetation into the central business district.

inspired by the elegant rhythm of bird wings, the design echoes city speed and movement. more importantly, elements of greenery seep through the skeletal frame of the wings, conveying the idea of sustainability and eco- architecture.

the architecture intends to blend into the natural environment of the site. the building uses a series of wooden louvers to mimic the rhythm of the surrounding forest, while private programmes appear as floating “tree tops” above the louvers.

a sustainable concept basis was applied to this residential development by incorporating external sliding aluminium louvers aiming to reach a balance between protection against solar gain and allowing the entry of sunlight with minimum solar glare on one hand, and solar thermal panels for domestic water heating system on the other. the building reaches its top with an outer ring determined by the circulation circuit of the rooftop area providing a privileged framed view for the building residents. the sky-garden principle was applied in order to serve as a space for social interaction.

the master plan aimed to preserve the existing hill and redefine the axis based on the existing canal, thus linking the programmatic “cores” together. the architectural design was inspired by the spirit of chinese calligraphy. the fluidity and strength of the calligraphy strokes of the character “heart” inspires the design of the skin, underneath which sits the core areas of the building, creating a multi-dimensional yet cohesive design.

crystals depict richness and inherent energy, capturing the spirit of life. the conceptual design is based on the ever-changing and multi-faceted forms of the crystal – rhythmic, stylish and avant garde – mirroring the diverse commercial, entertainment, relaxation and cultural activities happening within the zhuhai commercial & cultural centre.
the design calls for a cohesion between architecture and nature, capturing the essence of the ever-changing crystal and using the idea of ‘crystal’ and ‘light’ as unique architectural features. the light that scintillates off the architecture projects a moving, artistic dance of light and illusion, bringing out the lively nature of the design and reflecting the harmonious and energetic image of zhuhai.

water is the symbol of wealth and dreams which are the sources of life. the design concept carries the lingnan culture by absorbing the essence of water principles with the connotation of the “beijiao history” and the story of the “fish big splash”. it aims to develop a relationship between these entities reflected in the fluid interaction between the requested program (high-end, business, leisure, entertainment and culture) in order to create an elegant, fashionable and dynamic beijiao commercial cultural center.
